Before the current war, Banchiwosen, my guide, a young man named Kenaw, took me around Lalibela and up the mountain. I visited his family. His father and I are both ex-military. HIs family gave me a small cross that I still wear. He has written me regularly, his family now dispersed. I have very warm memories of them and the place, and worry for all their well-being.
