Barry, since I wrote a triple prize winning book on this very topic, I might gently argue that the statement “ nobody is talking about it” might be a touch overwrought. Not only have I written about it, I speak about it. A lot of folks do, especially those steeped in the Dale Carnegie tradition. I would posit that in this sometimes very hostile social media environment, we really need to amp this up, but that doesn’t mean nobody talks about it. Regular acknowledgement begins in the morning mirror. If I am cruel and judgmental to myself, it’s damned hard to spread sweetness and light to others. So yes, be kind. But I would strenuously argue that I first need to do that with myself…if for no other reason than to know how it feels to hear kind words for a change. I’m all for it. Thanks for your article.
