Ashley, therein lies the issue. It’s so easy to draw simplistic conclusions from research, and confirmation bias, to which we are all of us subject, would mean that a scientist looking to prove X is likely to tease out proofs for his or her theory rather than end up with a more wobbly and vastly more dissatisfying, “well, we really have no idea.”

In science there is so much wiggle room. That’s part of the problem.
