As ridiculous, unfair, and ageist as accusing ALL Baby Boomers of ruining the world. As unfair, foolish and mindless as accusing ALL members of any generation for anything. As mindless and racist as saying ALL Blacks, ALL Jews, ALL Muslims. When we make sweeping statements about any group of people, we minimize them and reduce them to helplessness. It’s vicious. Petty. And ultimately, if and when members of that group buy into the lie, it prevents them from becoming all they can be. This statement- and yes I’ve seen it, along with the endless headlines Millennials are Killing Wine, Millennials are Killing Golf (as in who the fuck CARES), speaks to the ridiculous fears of people who cannot countenance change, cannot allow for the preferences of a new generation to disagree with their own, and cannot embrace how our economy has forced X generation to behave differently. Oh. Let’s BLAME them for being stuck with stagnant wages, which means that when they do get a job in X area, they can’t possibly afford a house. Don’t. Get. Me. Started. Millennials are beginning to turn forty, the beginning, as it were, of middle age. They are no longer kids. They are adults. And it’s about damned time we treated you and everyone else in that generation as such.
