As hard as this is, Gary, it is so important to tease out all the pieces. We have a right to what happened to us, they are our stories, part of our humanity. While they carve painful canoes in our soft parts, the truth also is that these are waters we must learn to navigate. Who knows who we are going to become. There is no perfect “there” when we can rest. We’re always paddling. I think the key is that we get so good at paddling over time, we stop worrying about drowning and start enjoying the water for a change.
