Acknowledged. AND. This is not for everyone for one simple reason: the shoulder doesn't always respond well to the overhead press. It's rare that we do this in everyday life, and it puts a unique strain on the joint. So, while it may work for some, and it does, it does not work for others, which means that pushing through this could very well lead to rotator cuff surgery. I used to be a fan of military presses for years (I've lifted steadily for 47, and took 85 lbs off 34 years ago) and my PT finally pointed out that my aging shoulders cannot deal with this kind of exercise. That doesn't say it isn't good exercise. What it does say is work with a pro before you get in the habit, or you may end up, as I did, with one of the most painful surgeries you will ever have. Even the surgeons won't want it done to them. There are plenty of shoulder exercises and workouts that don't involve the direct lift of weight overhead. Bottom line, have a pro know your body before you do serious and permanent damage. Our physiology is as unique as a fingerprint, and worth taking care of.
