A few things. First, while I would most certainly agree that this ONE way to determine brain health, I would hesitate to argue that working on balance alone trumps all the other critical factors of exercise, good food choices, purpose and social support. There are certainly early indicators, but I would argue strenuously that getting in better overall shape means that you can dump all those meds both script and OTC, which are a huge factor in the falls. I don’t argue your points, Malky, but the piece leaves out a few too many of the larger factors that lead to falls, not just the brain issues or age- related changes in the inner ear. While I most certainly wouldn’t expect you to pen a PDR sized piece, our propensity to want an easy way to live longer vs.just doing the scientifically validated work of decent food and regular movement needs to be challenged. This could be part of an overall program. However, standing on one foot won’t do much about a shit diet, sedentary habits, depression and a plethora of drugs. Balance work is critically necessary. But not the only thing, a simple point that could possibly be useful.
