A., consider this: some 75% of us are terrified of networking, with good reason. We are all of us self-absorbed and self-referential. Increasingly we have less empathy or interest in others, and as a result, we rarely do the hard work of being open and curious, to stay nothing of being well-read and broadly experienced. This is what I find. It’s also why, when I find folks who are well-read, interested and interesting, are fully engaged in life, they are treasures indeed. We all suffer self-doubt. Most meetings I’d rather play with a a service dog on the floor. True that. But I do get up, talk, ask, engage, and push myself because the rewards are extraordinary. It’s hard damned work. I wish you’d been in one of my networking classes. We do some cool things that change the conversation big time.
